Monopoli, again with an interesting old centre
with churches and cathedral, plus a castle
overlooking the harbour dating from Roman times.

Egnazia, with a superb museum and well-excavated
Graceco-Roman town. A few kilometres inland from
the villa in the hills is Concersano, with a
centre dating from Norman times, with a fine
cathedral and abbey. Nearby are the famous caves
of Castellana Grotte, with spectacular limestone

trulli, is also nearby, and the towns of Martina

General: Puglia gets close to 300 days
sunshine a year with the warm weather pretty-much
guaranteed in May and going right through until
the end of September. The hottest months are July
and August but with two seas around the area the
air does not feel too oppressive during these
months. Spring and autumn is glorious- sunny and
warm with wild flowers in abundance. In the main
summer season the towns are filled with
entertainment, with seasons of all sorts of
music, dance and theatre. Add to that religious
festivals and historical pageants and
theres something going on most of the year.
Visit a cantina to sample the local wines, or
taste the olive oil, and dont forget the
Puglian culinary specialities ranging from
seafood to healthy vegetarian dishes.
